A Most Excellent Award for The League of Extraordinary Red Heads
Leigh Hornbeck, Ginger Reporter Extraordinaire
Times Union reporter Leigh Hornbeck, an extraordinary red head, will be receiving an award for her feature news story introducing the League of Extraordinary Red Heads to the world. This is the story that started it all folks, and that launched us on the path to becoming the No. 7 “Best Redheaded Gathering of 2013.”
The Society for Features Journalism honors the craft of feature writing and the people who do it for a living at news organizations and wire services.
Leigh took second place for her story about the League in the “Short Feature: Division 1” category for her “Tight, bright writing of fewer than 1,000 words.”
That’s right people, gingers keep it tight and bright!
“Second: Leigh Hornbeck, (Albany, N.Y.) Times Union, “Redheads Share a League of Their Own” Judge’s comments: Who knew that redheads had it so hard? This reporter uses her personal experiences to convey the funny, and slightly heartbreaking, trials of a much-maligned group.”
Next stop: world domination. Stay tuned for the next big League event this Oct. 1.
